Job Description:
The AWS Cloud Site Reliability Engineer is responsible for AWS platform and application solutions development, architectural design of level 3 and level 4 diagrams, security compliance and maintenance activities of a secure AWS infrastructure encompassing multiple accounts and external interfaces. The ideal candidate should have professional experience operating multi-account AWS environments, deep AWS security expertise, interacting effectively with customers and development teams, gathering and analyzing requirements for the design of new systems and infrastructure, which satisfy business requirements. Must have the ability to see big picture requirements and distill them into concrete tasks and execute independently in a timely fashion.
The successful candidate will evaluate, architect, document and implement enhanced approaches to deliver secure AWS infrastructure services, with knowledge of built-in automation to increase efficiency and lower human intervention and administrative level of effort. The candidate will have considerable AWS and security skills, as well as DevSecOps skills around CI/CD and experience in automation such as Cloud Formation. The candidate will be jointly part of the Security and Operations teams, supporting the Development, Test, QA, Stage, and Production environments. The candidate will effectively design and architect the engineering requirements including security controls in compliance with the security process.
Required Qualifications:
• Education: B.E / B.S. / B.A. degree or equivalent required
• 8+ years of relevant professional system engineering or administration experience, with significant exposure to a variety of technologies and domains
• Candidate must have experience in AWS control Tower
• 3-5 years working with AWS, deep understanding of AWS concepts, and fluency with the AWS security controls and tools.
• Experience implementing and maintaining secure cloud-bases systems and application in Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Experience automating server configurations to include standard build installations and system security hardening
• Understanding of Python scripting is required
• Experience with core network services to include: DHCP, DNS, VLAN, load balancing, etc.
• Experience writing standard operating procedures, system requirements, and other technical documents
• Experience documenting level 3 and level 4 design diagrams from HLD through to technical implementation
• Experience collaborating with cross functional teams to achieve a shared project goal
• Experience with Amazon CloudWatch and Control Tower
• Cloud Formation experience and knowledge
• Strong working knowledge of automation tools such as (Puppet, Jenkins, and Chef)
• Working knowledge of software-defined lifecycles, product packaging, and deployments
• Working knowledge of RDS database such as PostgresSQL, Oracle, and MySQL
• Working knowledge and experience with project and portfolio management tools, preferably Service Now, Microsoft Project, and/or Jira
• Excellent verbal and writing skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels
• Excellent time-management and prioritization skills
• Excellent communications skills
• Strong planning and task management skills
Essential Functions:
• Candidate must have experience in AWS control Tower
• Well versed in AWS deployment architectures, options, and strategies
• Administer, monitor and deploy large scale systems and service solutions on AWS
• The Site Reliability Engineer will be the interface between the application development, platform engineering and security teams responsible for ensuring success and deployment of applications into approved cloud environments.
• Provide comprehensive architecture for level 3 and level 4 diagrams required for development of the platform, applications and security requirements.
• Assist with the design and development of a multi-account, multi-region, highly available and highly automated AWS environment to support full software development life cycle and production of mission-critical applications
• Take ownership of recurring system and security updates to mitigate risk and improve overall infrastructure information security
• Ensure a highly available production infrastructure
• Provide application engineering support for product owners and understand and define application needs, protocols, ingress and egress requirements, IAM roles, security groups, security controls, and other relevant engineering requirements.
• Work with the platform engineering team to establish secure AWS environments for implementation.
• Learn and drive the client security architecture requirements and controls in alignment with the client protocols.
• Evaluate, recommend, and implement enhancements to the current architectural and AWS services
• Monitor development of environments to ensure alignment with build architectures and maintain a record of changes, keeping all diagrams up to date.
• Proactively mitigate business service disruptions with designed redundancy, backups, and highly available solutions
• Reactively troubleshoot outages, perform root cause analysis, and execute continual service improvements
• Develop and adhere to technical standards, specifications, and best practices
• Understand and contribute to the creation of system support documents, operational procedures, and build scripts/Cloud Formation templates
• Work with Development teams to install, test, and implement against business requirements
• Understand and maintain automation scripts to increase system efficiency and lower administrative level of effort
• Lead and participate in technical discussions to document system design, analysis, and troubleshooting
Additional Responsibilities:
• Attend and host meetings and provide support in the form of targeted agendas, meeting notes, communications, and follow-up delivery
• Maintain relevant and current professional knowledge via in-house training, online resources, attendance at professional events, and personal investment in continued education and certification
• Monitor industry trends for changes, risks, releases, and advancements in cloud services and technologies
• Develop and maintain working relationships and collaborate with various vendors/other stakeholders
• Analyze and review existing processes and procedures to determine areas of possible improvement that will lead to gains in efficiency and security
