Job Description:
· Good understanding of container run-time, Kubernetes and other CNCF technologies such as Container Network Interface and Container Storage Interface
· Experience in architecting and building a Kubernetes deployment from scratch
· Demonstrated senior level Linux administration skills:
o Fluency with linux command line environment. We use RedHat and CentOS mostly.
o Fluency linux boot process and the configuration of it.
o Fluency with Linux networking, devices, services/daemons, storage
o Fluency with one or more specialization areas such as email, webserves,
§ application and service monitoring, databases, network
§ architecture, storage networks, etc.
o Fluency with some virtualization or cloud architectures. We use
§ VMWare and OpenStack.
o Fluency with fault detection, isolation and resolution.
· Familiarity and experience with the DevOps approach to system management.
o Configuration as code
o Automate All the Things.
o Everything in revision control.
o Servers as appliances rather than works of art.
o Incremental documentation.
o General idea of CI/CD platforms like Jenkins / Concourse is a plus
o Knowledge in Go/Golang is a plus.
· Familiarity with one or more network and service monitoring tools such as Nagios/OP5, Icinga, SevOne, OpenNMS, etc. We use Nagios, OP5 SevOne, Icinga, and a number of corporate and team level custom tools.
· Familiarity and willingness to work in ticketed/issue tracking environment. We use Github issues and Jira tickets.
· Fluency in one or more scripting languages including Bash, Perl, Python, ruby, etc.
· Familiarity with configuration management systems. We are using Ansible.
· Familiarity with one or more revision control systems. We use git and github enterprise.
· Willingness to work in large complex corporate computing and networking environments at national scale.
· Willingness to manage support requests and issues with other internal and external teams. Much of getting work done at this level requires coordination with many other corporate and vendor teams.
· Willingness to work incrementally to improve operational readiness and situational awareness of our production capability and the infrastructure supporting it.
· Willingness to work inside a corporate change control framework.
· Understanding of what it means to work in and make changes to a complex and growing production environment supporting millions of customers over hundreds to thousands of network elements.
· Willingness to be available for escalations and to work trouble at a tier 3 and above level. Frequency is low but when it does happen it is because a significant part of our capability has failed.???
