Position: Business Analyst- Data Governance 

Location: Austin, TX 

Duration: 12-18 Months

Local to Texas for Onsite


As a Business Analyst in the DSHS Data Governance Program the position will focus on data governance and data management functions for the agency. The BA will perform mid-level business and systems analysis work that involves gathering, developing, and documenting user requirements and business cases, reviewing and assessing business processes, and providing research and special project work related to data governance. The position will work in concert with appropriate stakeholders on IT solutions and business decisions to support the organization’s short- and long-term business goals/strategy to ensure they align with Data Governance strategies and project requirements. The position works closely with the Data Governance Lead and stakeholders to review and evaluate outcomes and provides recommendations to the Data Governance Director, DSHS Programs, and information technology to standardize data governance across data systems.


The position will work with the Data Governance Lead to coordinate change management activities which will involve frequent communication to customers about the change and its impact. The position works with the Data Governance Lead to advocate, coach, and mitigate resistance to changes to minimize disruption and achieve desired results from initiatives that are triggered/enabled by data governance technology. The BA serves as an advocate for the business stakeholders and must be able to identify business analysis tasks and meaningful project estimates for the tasks. The BA must be able to conduct requirements gathering with programs on data management and data governance needs. The BA must have strong communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to communicate with technical, non-technical, functional, management and executive staff through written reports and verbal presentations. The BA must be able to work within cross-functional teams.
