Role : Senior DevOps Engineer.
Location : Norfolk, VA (no remotes)
Duration : 6+months.
Candidates need to be Senior or Subject Matter Expert in Bamboo
GBD Provider is in immediate need of a Senior DevOps Engineer. This position has the potential for contract to hire and will be a multiple year engagement in Norfolk, VA (no remotes). Video conference enabled interviews are requested.
- SME for Bamboo pipelines
- Be capable of efficiently building and configuring Windows server environments (OS, firewalls, NTFS (security), certificates, installations, configure services, virtual machines, understand networking and active directory)
- Understand DevOps pipelines and how to build pipelines that support multiple, dependent technologies through the CI and CD steps
- Be able to script in Powershell, Windows scripts. Any actual development experience (app and database) is helpful since DevOps is a service tailored to the developers and their experience
- A good communicator, written and verbal
- Very comfortable with Bitbucket / Git and Gitflow like branching strategies
- Plus if the know some of our tools such as Artifactory, XL Deploy, Sonarqube, MSBuild, Veracode and Redgate.
- JIRA and agile experience is helpful as well
- Nice to have: Infrastructure as code tools (Ansible, Chef or Puppet), AWS, Dockers (containers)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Help design, implement, deploy, and configure DevOps pipelines (CI, CI / CD, scheduled, etc.) that span multiple technology stack (.Net, web, Oracle, SQL, Informatica, SSIS, SFDC) as turnkey solutions
• Able to help facilitate cultural and SDLC changes to a wide audience (executives, business, IT, security, operations) to drive towards a highly lean and automated DevOps enterprise
• Provide DevOps technical guidance and education to IT and business partners on the core DevOps concepts
• Able to perform readiness assessments and onboarding discoveries for agile team customers
• Build, maintain, and monitor various DevOps related standards and best practices (configuration management, release management, branching, DevOps coding / scripting, etc.)
• Build and maintain related environments (Windows), preferably with infrastructure as code solutions
• Highly capable in a variety of DevOps toolings: scripting / programming languages (python, .net, powershell), orchestration / workflow (preferably Bamboo, XL Release), continuous deployment (i.e. Artifactory and XL Deploy preferably), continuous learning and continuous monitoring solutions
• Partners with development teams by providing guidance including but not limited to DevOps compatible architectures, software engineering practices (i.e. branching, static and security analysis, metrics / telemetry production, code reviews, agile, unit testing, version control, test data management, etc.) to prepare teams for DevOps onboarding
• Capable of DevOps related requirements gathering, meeting facilitations and project planning of DevOps initiatives
• Fluent with security best practices and controls
• Knowledge of IT operations in an always up and always available context
• Acts as a bridge between, application development teams and infrastructure, security and operations teams with a focus on building systems that will meet the collective concerns
• Ability to communicate well, both verbally and written
• Capable of clearly and thoroughly documenting related research, solutions, and processes
Required Qualifications
These are pretty much in order of importance but there is flexibility in years of experience…
• 7+ years of experience with analyzing, designing, building, testing, and deploying mature DevOps pipelines (CI / CD) (Bamboo, Xebia Labs)
• 7+ Experience with variety of programming and scripting languages (Python, Powershell, .Net) and utilizing various APIs and CLIs
• 5+ years experience in administration of the Windows (including IIS and various frameworks) and CI servers (Bamboo preferred)
Can have fewer years but must know how to build and recreate a Windows environment which is where our Bamboo boxes are and most of our testing boxes
• 3+ years of experience with the version control tools (SVN, Git, BitBucket, Redgate)
Must know how to use and get branching strategies, can have fewer years
• Strong knowledge on Jfrog Artifactory
Important
• Good experience with static analysis and security analysis tools (SonarQube, Veracode, Qualys).
Not as important, other SMEs on the team can help
• Experience with the build tools (MSBuild)
Not as important, other SMEs on team can help
• Experience in deploying of Oracle, Informatica, SQL Server, SSIS and .Net solutions
Pretty important, must know how and what they look like when deployed
• Experience with the application tier architectures, including knowledge of web servers, databases, virtualization, load balancers, and firewalls
• Familiar with agile concepts and practices
Not terribly important
• Positive attitude and motivation to learn new technologies and keep up with rapid change
• Must be an eager self-starter with strong problem solving skills, strong work ethic and an ability to operate independently without much supervision. Should be able to multi-task effectively and finish projects in a timely fashion
Important
• Bachelor's Degree+ in computer science or related field
Preferred Skills
• Previous experience as a developer in order to understand the related SDLC, activities, concerns and perspectives
• Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible /Chef / Puppet
Nice to have
• Experience working with SQL Server and Oracle
[KM: ] Knows the concept and can work with one, but not necessary at developer level
• Experience with utilizing full stack monitoring (Splunk, Precise, Tivoli, etc.) and alerting with tools a plus
• Experience with Mesosphere and containerization concepts is a huge plus
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure is a plus
We don’t have containers or clouds yet but nice to have when they arrive at Anthem
• Experience with Database DevOps tools (Redgate) is a huge plus
