Role/Title: Database Engineer

Onsite/Remote: Remote

Position Type: Contract – 6 months

Position Notes:

More involved than last role (Janaki – Snowflake Engineer), role will sit with research and development team, person has to be familiar with lingo from perspective of financial data, looking for engineer who understand snowflake and sequel yet has ability to do enhancements. Someone that knows Python and can write sequel. Someone who is a go-getter, has great communication, someone who can work in a very fast-paced organization. Person will be working with IT as homebase. Ryan Stever (CIO) and Chad Thomas will be giving direction and main contact for this engineer. Paul is support form IT perspective. Candidate MUST have strong communication and be eager in this role. Must also have background/knowledge in finance.

Job Description:

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement SQL & Snowflake data warehouse solutions, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability.
  • Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL internals.
  • Large scale distributed systems, transactions, and consistency models.
  • Analyze and understand performance and scalability bottlenecks in the system and solve them.
  • Design and implement novel query optimization or distributed data processing algorithms.
  • Develop tools for improving our customers' insights into their workloads.
  • High comfort level coding Python solutions for back-end technology.
  • Systems programming skills including multi-threading, concurrency,
  • Develop and optimize ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data into Snowflake moving to SQL.
  • Create and maintain database objects such as tables, views, stored procedures, and functions.
  • Collaborate with data architects and analysts to understand data requirements and design appropriate schemas.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot performance issues, ensuring efficient query execution and data retrieval.
  • Implement security measures and access controls to protect data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Perform data quality checks and implement data governance best practices.
  • Stay up to date with the latest Data Base technologies, features and capabilities and propose improvements to existing solutions.
  • Document technical specifications, processes, and procedures.

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 5 years of hands-on experience working with Big Storage Data Bases in a professional environment.
  • Prior experience building workload optimization or tuning features.
  • Strong systems programming skills including multi-threading, concurrency, caching, and batching, etc.
  • Exceptional database fundamentals and meaningful contributions in database internals.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience writing complex queries, stored procedures, and functions.
  • Working knowledge of data transformation tools such as DBT.
  • Experience with ETL tools and processes, including data ingestion, transformation, and data integration.
  • Solid understanding of database design principles and best practices.
  • Familiarity with data modeling techniques and schema design.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve performance issues.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Certifications in Snowflake or related technologies would be a plus.
