Job Description-

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced SQL Developer Contractor to join our team for a large-scale modernization project.

This project involves migrating a Sybase database to a Microsoft SQL Server database backend in a information system supporting local government.

As a SQL Developer Contractor, your primary responsibility will be to identify and manage data integrations within the system.

 

Responsibilities:

Database Migration: Collaborate with the project team to understand the existing Sybase database structure and design a comprehensive plan for migrating it to a Microsoft SQL Server database.

Data Integration Analysis: Identify all data integrations within the justice information system, including interfaces, ETL processes, and any other methods of data exchange.

System Understanding: Gain a deep understanding of the justice information system, including its modules, components, and data flow, in order to effectively identify and manage data integrations.

Documentation: Create detailed documentation of data integrations, including their purpose, data sources, destination tables, transformation rules, and any associated business rules or requirements.

Analysis and Validation: Analyze the existing data integrations to identify potential issues, gaps, or inefficiencies, and propose appropriate solutions for improvement.

Database Development: Develop and implement SQL scripts, stored procedures, functions, and other database objects required for data migration and integration.

Data Mapping and Transformation: Define data mappings and transformations between the source and target databases, ensuring data integrity and consistency during the migration process.

Performance Optimization: Optimize SQL queries, database structures, and data access patterns to improve system performance and efficiency.

Testing and Troubleshooting: Collaborate with the testing team to design and execute test cases, as well as troubleshoot and resolve any data-related issues identified during testing.

Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, business analysts, and stakeholders, to ensure smooth integration of the database migration and data integration activities.

 

Requirements:

Proven experience as a SQL Developer, specifically working on database migration projects.

Strong proficiency in SQL programming and database concepts, with expertise in Microsoft SQL Server.

Solid understanding of database design principles, data modeling, and performance optimization techniques.

Experience in analyzing and documenting complex data integrations, including interfaces and ETL processes.

Ability to quickly understand complex systems and troubleshoot data-related issues.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Self-motivated and able to work independently, while also being a team player.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
